This trend I am witnessing, in virtually every aspect of my life in America on a daily basis, has taken me from shocked to concerned to...well... truly terrified.
Every single business transaction, big or small, of any kind that I make, involves procedures, attempts, charges, rules, obligations, etc that are excessive, incorrect, improper, undue, opportunistic, immoral and/or illegal. The corporate climate is a cold, lonely, environment. But what scares me is that not only is our society so willing to just accept this behavior, most people seem baffled as to what and why I am protesting at all.
So let me explain at least one of the business practices which I find most unacceptable and why, as obvious as it may seem...
Banks - When you deposit monies into a bank, they take your money and loan it out. This makes them huge profits. That is why they traditionally pay you interest. You should NOT have to pay fees for things like withdrawing money, using ATMs, getting money orders or maintaining a minimum balance...basic functions of any bank. I wish I had a scam that good: "Ok sir, I will hold your money for you, but it is gonna cost you."
Have you ever taken a personal check to the bank that issued it, tried to cash it and had them say, "You need to have an account here to cash this check" or tried to charge you to cash it? That means the person who wrote the check (Mr. "A") has a checking account there. What good is Mr. A.'s checking account if they won't cash his checks?!?! Don't fall for that shit.
